Easy DIY Halloween Costumes

I stumbled on this post by Real Simple magazine and was smitten! So adorable!

Here are three simple costumes you can easily make with things you already have at home:

Safari Guide

This young adventurer’s outfit begins with basic khaki shorts, white tee, and sneakers (or boots). The vest and binoculars are made from a paper grocery bag and empty toilet paper tubes. And what safari is complete without at least one “wild” animal?

Note the clever use of kraft paper envelopes as buttoned pockets!

*

Raining Cats & Dogs

Uh-oh: Watch out for poodles! Pull out your child’s rain gear and a few of her furry friends for a clever conceptual costume. All you need is an old umbrella and a hot glue gun to attach the toys.

I'm thinking some Webkinz cats & dogs may be the perfect size for this..

*

Saturn

My personal favourite!

This getup revolves around black pants and shirt (or black sweats) sprinkled with a constellation of shining star stickers. Layer on a bright sweatshirt that you’ve painted with Saturn-like bands. Then add a pillow for stuffing and top it all off with as many “rings” as your little planet can twirl.

The clever folk at Real Simple hemmed the cut sweatshirt arm hole edges quickly & easily with fabric glue.

*

Find these and more ideas on Real Simple's website!

Make sure to come visit EiO! for the Annual Cambie Village Halloween Hunt on Saturday, October 30th! There will be a kid-friendly movie at Park Theatre at 10:30AM followed by face painting, magic shows and pumpkin decorating right outside our door on 18th Avenue! Maybe we'll see you in one of these awesome costumes?
